Case Being in Balance coaching: Professional football player

A 25-year-old footballer at a leading Dutch club and national squad, found himself in the spotlight with thousands of fans following his every move. As a child he dreamed of a life as a professional footballer, and now, with the reality of this dream and the pressure that comes with it, he felt the need to strengthen his mental and emotional game. The expectations were immense and the fear of not living up to the image of 'perfection' weighed heavily. With the goals of better regulating tension, feeling mentally 'freer', and maximizing his performance on the field, he started his journey with Being in Balance®.

Challenges and Body & Mind Scan

At the start of the process, the Body & Mind Scan revealed significant sources of stress. The athlete experienced extreme pressure from external expectations and struggled with strict self-assessment. The weight of others' opinions and his reluctance to express himself led to mental blocks. His thoughts were dominated by perfectionism, which significantly increased his stress, especially during appearances for the national team. This problem became physically noticeable in stressed organs such as the intestines and the throat.

Being in Balance Body & Mind Scan Results

Initially, the Body & Mind Scan showed a high stress load in the intestinal area, which corresponded to the difficulty the footballer had in processing criticism and stress. His limiting belief “If I'm not perfect, they won't love me” was identified as a core issue. After 2.5 months of 'Being in Balance®' coaching, the scans showed a significant decrease in stress and a balanced physiological state. The footballer had taken important steps in self-awareness and stress regulation, which helped him put pressure into perspective and release pressure.

Approach Being in Balance Coaching

Guided by the results of the Body & Mind Scan, a Being in Balance® coaching program was developed, focused on the specific needs of the football player. Actions taken by the coachee:

 

  • Consciousness training: Awareness of psycho-emotional themes, with an emphasis on self-acceptance, expressing oneself better and learning to let go.
  • Tension Regulation: The use of breathing techniques to manage inner tension.
  • Dietary adjustments: Dietary adjustments based on the Body & Mind Scan. 
  • Mental training: Applying visualization and thought training.
  • Attention training: Training focused on attention and self-reflection to be more present in the moment.
Results Being in Balance coaching

The efforts and dedicated participation in the 'Being in Balance®' program resulted in an impressive transformation:

 

  • Stress reduction: A significant reduction in stress and an improved balance in the initially stressed organs such as the intestines and throat.
  • Self-confidence: More self-confidence and an improved ability to express oneself.

This personal coaching process, supported by the scans and focused on the individual challenges of the footballer, led to a significant 'mental boost'. The Being in Balance® program has enabled him to deal with the pressure of professional sport more resiliently and to optimize his mental skills for his performance on the field.

 

In addition, he has found more inner peace, which has increased his vitality and energy. As a result, he now functions more effectively, both in his professional and personal life, making him better able to tackle the challenges of his leadership role while maintaining a healthy balance.
